You are not better because of your feed

Do you remember that time when things were simple and we did something just because we enjoyed it?

Well, social media has kind of ruined that a little bit.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a proud child of my age, and I do like social medias, I like spending time on them and connecting with people all over the world.

It has opened to us opportunities that didn’t exist before.

But with everything good, comes something rotten.

Social medias went from being a place of sharing your life with your friends, and finding like-minded people, to becoming a display window of carefully curated feeds, an aesthetic life, and incredible success.

You’ve probably heard it multiple times: people only show the highlights of their life on social medias, so we shouldn’t compare our normal to theirs.

What I’ve noticed, though, is that the achievement of the perfectly aesthetic feed that will bring you all the Instagram followers, has become so important, that many sacrifice the value of their content just to achieve the perfect look.

We are in a competition to make sure that the portion of life that we share is the best and most beautiful.

We want to jump on social medias and tell everybody that we are perfect and great, and we are going to show only the good things. We struggle with showing the middle, the progress that starts from the bottom, and we are willing to share only when we get to the top.

I’ll admit it, I’ve fallen for it too.

Of course, there is always someone who refuses to abide to these unscripted social media rules, and shows an unaesthetic home, the raw reality of everyday life, etc…

And those are the people that now are gaining the most traction.

Don’t get it wrong, though, there is still a large interest for aesthetic views and pretty feeds, I admit that I fall for that too, to the point that my Instagram feed is highly curated with color coordinated posts, and I may judge an account based on how “pretty” it looks.

But in an always more digital reality, people are finally looking for real connections, and have realized that the lies of social medias are not going to cut it anymore.

People are craving to talk with other people, and have started using social media to do just that.

Nonetheless, the majority is still running against the rest, feeling like in order to be happy you need to achieve the perfect life that will make the perfect feed.
